De herfst is volledig gearriveerd, herfst stormen en al. Onze tent laat zich heen en weer zwiepen, kraakt wat, maar houdt het
nog vol. Op het weerbericht staat dan dat de wind 19 km/u is, maar de windstoten zijn soms zeker windkracht 5. Laten we hopen
dat de tent het houdt.
Het bracht ons wel aan het denken; wat te doen qua leefruimte. De tent was de perfecte leefruimte voor de zomer. Maar nu; het
is lastig te verwarmen (niet geïsoleerd) dus de gaskachel draait s’avonds en houdt ons nèt comfortabel warm, nog los van de
harde winden.
We hadden bedacht een illegaal, maar prachtig, huis te bouwen van klei van het land en met een grasdak (zodat het niet te veel
opvalt). Maar dat idee hebben we omgezet naar het volgende idee; we vragen een vergunning aan om een schuur te bouwen die dan
toevallig een grasdak heeft en adobe muren. Dat kost alleen tijd. Als we dit nu zouden aanvragen, zou het misschien voor april
goedgekeurd zijn. Dan is de winter alweer voorbij. We hebben een oplossing nodig voor ‘nu’.
We hebben besloten een snelle hut in elkaar te zetten, net als de mooie hut van Beer (waar hij nu lekker in woont en als enige
geen last heeft van de storm). Deze snelle hut bestaat uit geperst houtplaten (het goedkoopste hout wat er hier te krijgen is)
en de rest bestaat uit tweedehands ramen en deuren die we gekocht hebben en balken en hout dat we gratis gehaald hebben op
verschillende plekken in Granada.
Beer’s hut heeft, alles bij elkaar (schroeven, raam, deur, elektriciteits-aanleg, bureautje, platen etc) 300 euro gekost. Die
van ons, die 2 x zo groot wordt, zal iets meer kosten (500 euro?). Maar dan hebben we wel binnen afzienbare tijd een
verwarmbare, stevige plek. We gaan deze hut vastmaken aan het houten schuurtje, als een soort extensie. Dus de badkamer- en wc
ruimte zal alweer nog een tijdje moeten wachten.
Onverwacht werd de yurt weer verhuurd aan een bekende en haar vriendin én kwamen er mensen langs die hun tent hier wilden
opzetten omdat ze wilden kijken of in Spanje wonen iets voor hen was. Ze deden wat werk op ons land als ‘betaling’, nadat ze
wat gesetteld waren. De man hield van fysiek werken en vond uit –tot onze blijdschap- dat er genoeg klei in de grond zit om een
huis mee te kunnen bouwen. Hij zag het als een leuke uitdaging om een hut te bouwen (erg achteraf en buiten het zicht) van
alleen maar materialen die op het land aanwezig waren en was hier ook al mee gestart.
Na een week verblijf, moesten ze onverwacht weer terug, vanwege een sterfgeval in de familie. Dus het was maar een korte
kennismaking. Aangezien ze wat spullen hier hebben moeten laten, zullen ze zeker wel terug komen om die in elk geval een keer
op te halen.
Als ik kijk naar de yurt kalender, is duidelijk dat hij al erg veel verhuurd is vanaf kerst. Hier en daar zijn nog wat vrije
weken tussendoor. Lem verblijft in de yurt als deze niet verhuurd is. Hij vind zijn leven een heel stuk leefbaarder op deze
manier. De yurt is comfortabel, schoon en makkelijk te verwarmen. Dus voor Lem komt er een wat lastige tijd aan, waarin hij
weer in de tent zal moeten slapen. Gelukkig komt Eric in december uit Nederland terug met een caravan, waar hij dan voorlopig
weer een eigen plek in heeft.
Mar heeft de motivatie gekregen om te starten met haar eigen hut. Ze heeft een prachtige plek (nu genaamd ‘Mar’s land’) in de
baranco gevonden hiervoor. Mar wil erg graag een kelder onder haar hut en is dus de afgelopen week begonnen met graven.
Waar ik het meest blij van wordt in deze periode, is de voorbereiding op de retreats van komend jaar. Nikki en ik hebben er 3
op stapel staan (1 in april, 1 in mei en 1 in juni). We komen wekelijks samen om hier aan te werken. Het wekelijks samenkomen
was al een feit en sowieso al een van de highlights van de week. Maar het werken aan de retreats brengt ons al zoveel inzichten
en groei, dat de daadwerkelijke retreat wel al helemaal geweldig moet zijn in dat opzicht.
Dit samen werken en praten is een heel fijne, ondersteunende afwisseling in het leven van opstaan, fysiek werken, eten maken,
nog wat werken, instorten voor een filmpje, slapen.
Voor de retreats moet er nog het een en ander opgebouwd worden, want er moeten 8 mensen een fijne, privé slaapplek hebben. Ook
moet er nog een gezamelijke doucheruimte/wc en keuken gemaakt worden. De aansluitingen voor deze keuken/douche liggen al
ingegraven te wachten, want deze keuken zat al maanden in de planning. Maar wanneer we daadwerkelijk tijd gaan hebben om hier
aan te beginnen, is de vraag.

Autumn has fully arrived, autumn storms and all. Our tent is swung back and forth, creaks a bit (or a lot), but still holds on.
The weather report says that the wind is 19 km / h, but the gusts of wind are certainly wind force 5. Let's hope the tent will
last.
It did make us think; what to do in terms of living space. The tent was the perfect living space for the summer. But now; it is
difficult to heat (not insulated), so we turn the gas heater on in the evening and it keeps us barely comfortable
(notwithstanding the strong winds).
We had planned to build an illegal, but beautiful, house of clay from the land and with a grass roof (so that it does not stand
out too much). But we converted that idea into the following idea; we apply for a permit to build a shed that happens to have a
grass roof and adobe walls. Getting this permit takes time however. If we applied for it now, it might be approved for April.
Then the winter is finished again. We need a solution for "now".
We have decided to assemble a fast cabin, just like Beer's comfy cabin (where he now lives comfortably and is the only one not
affected by the storms). This fast cabin consists of pressed wood plates (the cheapest wood available here) and the rest
consists of second-hand windows and doors that we have purchased and beams and wood that we have collected for free in various
places in Granada.
Beer’s cabin, all together (screws, window, door, electricity installation, desk, plates, etc.) cost 300 euro’s. Ours, which is
twice as large, will cost a little more (500 euro’s?). But then we will have a heatable, sturdy place in the foreseeable
future. We are going to attach this hut to the wooden shed, as a kind of extension. So the bathroom and toilet room will have
to wait another while.
Unexpectedly, the yurt was rented out again to someone I know -and her friend- ànd people came to set up their tent here
because they wanted to see if living in Spain is something for them. They did some work on our land as "payment" after they
settled down. The man liked to work physically and found - to our great happiness - that there is enough clay in the ground to
be able to build a house with. He saw it as a nice challenge to build a hut (very out of sight) of only materials that are
present on the land and he even had already started to do so.
After a week's stay however, they had to return unexpectedly due to a death in the family. So it was just a short introduction.
Since they had to leave some things here, they will certainly come back at least to pick them up.
When I look at the yurt calendar, it is clear that it is rented out a lot from Christmas on. Here and there are still some
available weeks in between. Lem stays in the yurt if it is not rented out. He finds his life a lot more liveable in this way.
The yurt is comfortable, clean and easy to heat. So for Lem a difficult time is coming, in which he will have to sleep in the
tent again. Fortunately Eric comes back from the Netherlands in December with a caravan, in which Lem will have his own place
for the time being.
Mar has found the motivation to build her own cabin. She has found a beautiful place (now called "Mar's land") in the baranco
for this. Mar really wants a basement under her cabin and has started digging last week.
What makes me most happy in this period, is the preparation for the retreats of the coming year. Nikki and I have 3 planned (1
in April, 1 in May and 1 in June). We meet weekly to work on this. The weekly meeting was already a fact and one of the
highlights of the week anyway. But working on the retreats already brings us so much insight and growth that the actual retreat
must be absolutely amazing in that respect.
Working and talking together is a very nice, supportive change in the life of getting up in the morning, working physically,
making food, working a little, collapsing in front of a movie, sleeping.
A few things have to be built up for the retreats, because 8 people have to have a nice, private place to sleep. There is also
a common shower room / toilet and kitchen to be made. The connections for this kitchen / shower are already ready and buried,
because this kitchen has been planned for months. But when will we actually have time to get started, is the question.
